- How The Idea Came About –
The story is a collaboration with my good friend Holmes. However, as NaNoWriMo rules state no collab works, she is my researcher and I am the actual writer of the piece. We’ve both been avid fans of Inception since we read about Christopher Nolan planning the project a few years before the film’s actual release in 2010 and had discussed theories of endings as well as general notes since July last year.
How this particular story came to be was…
Holmes and I were driving to the Coromandel – northwest of the north island of New Zealand, quite the tourist spot, perhaps 3 or 4 hours away from Auckland city – in September and were discussing a fic series I had started called the Bets Verse. She was explaining to me how her version of the history of the two men matched mine to a tee, but that she had thought back a little further as to how their particular skillsets and certain mannerisms came about. So for the entire scenic route – we missed our turn-off – around the Coromandel, we discussed our version of the histories of both Arthur and Eames. As we began the slow trek home, we pulled out a phone and began to record all our thoughts in detail.
After 1.5 hours of audio footage as well as general ideas we’ve had since then, we planned Ya’aburnee to the word. It’s mapped out to fit comfortably into ten parts and five markers, and we’re aiming for anywhere between 70,000-100,000 words on the thing all up.
